Amazon’s Fire TV app for Android gets a fresh coat of paint

We love it when an app gets a fresh coat of paint, especially if the exterior was looking extremely tired. Just last month, Amazon started rolling out its revamped Fire TV experience to streaming devices, and today, we’re getting word that the brand has now started rolling out its new Fire TV Android app experience.

The news comes from 9to5Google, highlighting the changes rolling out right now which Amazon talked about during CES 2026. The Fire TV app for Android might not be a go-to solution for most people with a physical remote for their streaming device, but it’s a nice option to have when the remote’s nowhere to be found.

Just what the app needed

According to Amazon, the new redesigned app “adds the ability to browse content, manage your watchlist, and play titles on your TV.” It’s not the most exciting update, but it’s nice to get an occasional change that keeps things feeling fresh. And for what it’s worth, the new design does look quite good when compared to the previous iteration.

Of course, just like the old version of the app, the new update will still allow you to use the app as a virtual remote for your streaming devices. That can come in handy when the physical remote slips behind a cushion, goes missing, or you’re just too lazy to go and find it. It’s unclear if this new app will have better performance when compared to the older version.

The reason why we mentioned this is that the new Fire TV experience on streaming devices gets a notable performance boost, which can range from 20 to 30%. Once more people start getting their hands on it, we imagine we’ll start hearing more about how the app feels. If you have yet to try out the new update that went live in February, we recommend giving it a try.

It’s available for the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED TV series in the US. Amazon does have plans to release the update to more devices and other regions. But that won’t happen until spring. So if you’re outside the US, or have an older device, you’ll just have to wait.
