Despite T-Mobile changing its plans and perks over the past couple of years, it remains one of the better choices for a wireless carrier in 2026. And while its Better Value plan might look great on the surface, there’s always the chance that, in the end, you might not be saving as much as you think by switching from an old plan.
That’s because there’s always the chance that an older plan offered a perk that’s no longer available, like all tax and fees included, or a freebie that’s just way over the top. With that said, T-Mobile is now trying to be more upfront with the details when switching from an old plan to a new one.
A new way forward
It appears that the carrier is now making some effort to be more transparent with customers to show what exactly they’re losing and gaining by switching plans. A Reddit user spotted the new comparison feature in the T Life app (via Android Authority). By switching plans in the T Life app, users will now be able to see the full list of perks and features prior to making the switch.
Furthermore, the price will be displayed at the end, showing an increase or decrease, depending on the case. However, probably the largest omission with this new comparison feature is that T-Mobile doesn’t show the cost with taxes and fees included. Now, while this might seem like a big deal, there was a point in time when T-Mobile offered plans where all taxes and fees were included.
As you can imagine, switching from a legacy plan to a new one can easily contribute to a huge increase, especially if you’re someone who has a family plan with lots of lines. Some in the Reddit thread have called out the flaw, and have also shared that by calling T-Mobile, agents should be able to get an estimate on taxes and fees if you’re thinking about switching.
That’s probably a good way to go, because you don’t want a nasty surprise when you get your first new bill. While it’s a good first step, we hope that T-Mobile will flesh this feature out a bit more to include at least an estimate to make things clearer. And if you’re a T-Mobile customer, don’t forget to sign up for this year’s MLB TV perk.
