What should you watch this weekend? It might not be the eternal question, but it is an old one.
There are too many choices on streaming and faced with them, it’s easy to fall into a comfort watch. But even the most comfortable things can wear thin after a while.
So I’ve done the work of sorting through what’s new and by giving you less to choose from, the more likely you might be to watch one of them.
The 98th Oscars: Livestream (Hulu)
Grab the champagne and get ready to criticize red carpet fashion while wrapped in your robe, the Oscars are here. You can watch them live on Hulu. “The Oscars Red Carpet Show” hosted by Tamron Hall and Jesse Palmer starts at 6:30 pm ET and the Oscars themselves, hosted by Conan O’Brien, begin at 7 pm ET. Nobody 2 (Netflix)
In “Nobody,” a mild-mannered family man became an assassin. While this good guy turned bad plot isn’t exactly new to Bob Odenkirk, being the one in that role is. In this sequel, he has some time to spend with his family on vacation, though work gets in the way in the sleepy little town they’re staying in thanks to a crime boss played by Sharon Stone.
Scarpetta (Prime Video)
Nicole Kidman steps into the shoes of Kay Scarpetta, the fictional forensic pathologist from the pages of Patricia Cornwell’s book series. In this eight-episode series, Scarpetta revisits her first case from decades ago while dealing with the fallout from it in the present day.
One Piece: Season 2 (Netflix)
The second season of the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” has Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp making their way toward the Grand Line. Though it’s smooth sailing as far as how well the show is doing (the season has earned a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes), the gang is not in for such an easy time of things. They have to navigate through perilous waters and face fiendish foes.
The Madison (Paramount+)
Taylor Sheridan fans have a new show to watch with “The Madison” This one stars Michelle Pfeiffer as the matriarch of the Clyburn family who are from New York but retreat to Montana to deal with a family tragedy.
Fukushima: A National Nightmare (HBO Max)
If the news is not horrifying enough for you, you can revisit how close Fukushima came to a nuclear meltdown after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011 in this documentary.
