The Galaxy Z Fold 8 may finally get the upgrade you’ve been waiting for

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold range is one of the biggest and most advanced smartphone lines on the planet, and one of the few book-style foldable phones on the market.

However, Samsung’s weird obsession with keeping specifications at the same level has impacted the Z Fold, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 coming with the same 4,400mAh battery it’s been using since the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Well, that’s coming to an end. According to the latest rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have the range’s first battery upgrade for five years.

A long overdue upgrade

Samsung’s approach to battery specs on the Z Fold range has been weird for a long time. You’d expect that a phone costing $2,000 would get the business from a manufacturer. But weirdly, that’s rarely been the case, as the Z Fold 7 came with the same sized battery as the Z Fold 3, and the same 25W charging rate as the Z Fold 2.

Thankfully, Samsung has at least seen the light where the battery is concerned. According to a report from Galaxy Club, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will come with an advertised battery capacity of 5,000mAh, putting it on an even footing with the S26 Ultra.

Much like previous Z Fold phones, that battery will be split into two, as required by the phone’s fold. These two cells will be rated at 2,369mAh and 2,485mAh, putting the combined rating at 4,854Mah. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that’s not 5,000mAh, but this sort of rounding up is common in smartphones. Basically everyone does it.

Galaxy Club also points out that a version of the Z Fold 8 has been tested with a 2,393mAh capacity battery, which could make the battery closer to 4,900mAh. Still an upgrade, just not one that brings it into line with the S26 Ultra. This could be the supposed Z Fold 8 Wide variant of the phone.

This is great news for Galaxy Z fans, after it was revealed last week that the Z Flip 8 would miss out on battery upgrades. Now, if Samsung also throws a faster charging rate into the Z Fold 8, then we could be on track for the biggest battery glow-up in half a decade for Samsung’s most advanced line.
