How To Take Full Advantage Of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2's New Weapons And Movement

The loot pool received a major refresh for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, with Epic flushing all of Season 1’s weapons aside from two shotguns. That’s right, the lock-on assault rifle is gone, as is the Deadeye–there aren’t any scoped assault rifles or SMGs at all this season, at least for now.

Likewise, Season 2’s selection of movement items is nearly all new, with Shockwave Grenades being left out. Don’t worry, though–this season still has excellent movement items for getting around the new biomes on the Battle Royale island. They just aren’t the ones you’re used to.

Below we’ll dive into the new loot pool in detail, and offer a few tips for how to make the best use of them as you get used to the new state of things in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2.

Chaos Reloader shotgun

This new shotty is essentially a version of the Star Wars Jawa Blaster that uses ammo. It gives you only one shot before you need to reload, but the reload is quick enough that the experience of using this one feels similar to any hard-hitting pump. The Chaos Reloader isn’t quite as generous with its spread as the Jawa Blaster was, so it’s a little harder to hit a good headshot with this thing. But the Jawa Blaster might be Fortnite’s best shotgun ever, so it’s not really a big deal for the Chaos Reloader to be a little worse.

Vector 7 DMR

This new DMR, which uses sniper ammo and has a 5-shot magazine, is the only scoped weapon in the loot pool at the start of Season 2. It fires more slowly than most assault rifles, and much faster than most snipers. Its damage numbers similarly split the gap–two headshots is enough for a kill, but with body shots you might need all five shots in the mag. If you’ve got cracked aim, this is your gun.

Bouncing Boomstick

It’s a stick of dynamite that explodes every time it bounces, doing 40 points of damage to any foe caught in its fairly generous blast radius. This is going to be an essential tool for buildfighting in Season 2.

Overdrive Grenades

There are no more Shockwave Grenades this season. Instead, we’ve got the Overdrive Grenade, which temporarily makes you move, pickaxe, and reload faster after you use it. The Overdrive Grenade has a couple major drawbacks versus Shockwaves, however: You can’t break structures or builds with it, and they don’t launch you nearly as far as Shockwaves did. But these still provide fall damage protection.

Skyline Deployer

This gun lets you fire off ziplines that will attach to a building or spawn a balloon that holds it in place. This zipline allows you to deploy your glider when you jump off of it, which means this gun is currently the best available movement item. Just a heads up, though: The ziplines you shoot will stay there for the rest of the match unless somebody destroys them, so your enemies will be able to follow you when you use the Skyline Deployer for a fast escape.

Returning weapons and items

We’re also starting the season off with some older weapons and items. The only Season 1 guns that are sticking around are the Iron Pump and Twin Hammer shotguns. You can see what else there is in the list below.

  • Combat Assault Rifle
  • Nemesis AR (pictured)
  • Chapter 1 Pistol
  • Thunder Burst SMG
  • Iron Pump Shotgun
  • Twin Hammer Shotguns
  • Twin Mag SMG
  • Mythic Goldfish
  • FlowBerry Mist Grenade

Upcoming Season 2 items

Part of Chapter 7 Season 2’s showdown gimmick involves other loot pool items being unlocked as members of Team Foundation and Team Ice King rack up rivalry kills. Much of the new loot pool will unlock this way over the course of the season.

  • Ice King’s Gauntlets – shoot energy projectiles and conjures an AOE blizzard
  • Seven Cluster cannon – a launcher that fires a rocket that breaks into a cluster of bombs
  • Seven Power gloves (pictured) – a new version of Nitro Fists
  • Slapperoni Pizza – pizza that gives a Slap effect for unlimited sprint when eaten
  • Exotic Rift Rifle – creates a rift when you fire it

We don’t have a timeline for when these will be added. It’ll just happen as the community collectively accomplishes Showdown goals which you can track here.
