Google’s Gmail-integrated messaging app, Google Chat, gained a new option to continue in-meeting conversations back in November. The development made it so that Google Meet in-meeting messages would be powered by and available in Google Chat.
This tackled a core issue of in-meeting messages being lost after said meeting ended.

One major frustration gets a real fix
In its existing form, meeting conversations live in your Google Chat direct messages. This has made it difficult to find specific conversations or specific notes from a meeting. This approach is changing now.
According to Google’s latest Workspace update for the app, users will soon be able to group all past and future meeting chats into a dedicated section.
“Once a meeting concludes, the meeting conversation (if used) seamlessly moves into this section, providing a persistent home for ongoing follow-ups,” wrote the tech giant.
Using the new section is completely optional
Once the feature rolls out, users might see an in-app banner or a tooltip indicating that they can try out the new section. If enabled, ‘Meetings’ will show up as a dedicated section within the app’s sidebar, right below Spaces, as seen in the short GIF above.
”This action can be reversed at any time by deleting the section via the actions menu,” reads the initial in-app banner. Additionally, the section can be moved around and reordered too.
The feature will be off by default. Users need to manually opt-in to activate the feature. If the app doesn’t show you a banner or tooltip about the feature, head to the three-dot overflow menu found on any section of their conversation list. Then choose “Create a meeting section” and then click “Create.”
The section should then show up in the conversation list.
Google Chat’s new Meeting section has begun rolling out and will be widely available by mid-April. It will be available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
