If you ask me, DD2 is overrated. Like original had its quirkiness that was more befitting of time it released in. Sequel tried same like it is still 2012. Unfortunately for them it isn’t. Same as Bethesda when they try to release Starfield like it is still 2011. So it is more like ok-ish game with rough mechanics and stuff. That also happened to launch in terrible state and bad performance. It had opportunity to adapt, release less broken and strike big, if done right and if it kept just right amount of old quirkiness, while making itself interesting, while not relying on novelty original had long after that wore off. But you just can’t ignore years of progress and games that advanced things forward. If you do you are a dinosaur in modern world. And there is no bigger example of what happens to dinosaurs in modern world than Nokia, or rather their mobile phone division. Failing to adapt, insisting on more and more outdated Symbian,… it made company that couldn’t possibly fall to fall and never pick back up again. Also all those microtransactions were pretty garbage move, especially around fast travel. Like regardless how they weren’t as helpful as they sounded, they kind of ruined perception of the game, because it made it look like it was made extra hard and slow, so you would shell out more money.
Like sure, there is niche audience for those types of game, don’t get me wrong and by all means I am glad they are getting what they wanted. I played original and enjoyed it. I played DD2 after getting it on sale and didn’t enjoy it that much. But that is me. Also I did hack it and give myself basically infinite of whatever microtransactions were selling as middle finger to Capcom. Still it is niche game and it sold like one… I am shocked and amazed. 😀
