At CES 2026 earlier this year, Google previewed new Gemini for Google TV features meant to make the TV-viewing experience a lot more seamless than it traditionally had been.
Some of those have already made their way to TVs near you, while others are starting to make their way out now!
Gemini brings voice control to Google TV settings
You can now go into deep dives and adjust your settings using only your voice
In a new blog post, the tech giant announced three new Gemini-powered features that are rolling out to Google TVs now. These aim to make it “easier than ever to explore the topics you love on the biggest screen in your home.”
More visual results for your queries
Regardless of your query choice, Gemini on Google TV will now try to give you a visually appealing result whenever possible. For example, if you pose a basketball game-related query, like “who won the Warriors game,” instead of simply giving you an answer, your Google TV will now highlight a live scorecard with other relevant information.
Similarly, if you’re looking for a recipe, Gemini will give you a video tutorial instead of a simple text/voice-only reply.
Deep dives want to help you learn
‘Deep dives’ is arguably the update’s most ambitious part. When you’re bored and don’t have anything to watch on your Google TV, you can ask it to get Deep dives on educational topics such as health & wellness, economics, technology, and more.
These are essentially narrated visual breakdowns that help you understand the topic at hand. They’re custom and interactive, complete with guided follow-up questions. “Deep dives give you the option to turn passive viewing into meaningful screen time, enabling you to interact with the subjects that fascinate you most. To explore something new, just ask Gemini and click ‘Dive deeper’ or visit the Gemini tab at the top of your Home screen and select ‘Learn.'”
News briefs, but for sports
In addition to giving you visual results when you ask about the score, Gemini on Google TV will now also offer dedicated sports briefs. Essentially news briefs, but for sports, the feature is made for fans that can’t always catch the live action.
The feature will offer timely, narrated summaries of your favorite games, complete with the score, and even suggested YouTube videos like game highlights. For starters, it will support NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL games.
“Richer visual help from Gemini begins rolling out today to Gemini-enabled devices in the U.S. and Canada. You can also start exploring deep dives and sports briefs on Gemini-enabled devices in the U.S., with broader device support arriving this spring.”
