Unfortunately, amid tariff hikes and the ongoing DRAM and NAND shortage, Walmart appears to have quietly raised the price of the Onn 4K Plus.
As spotted by some Redditors, Walmart is quietly raising prices of the Onn 4K Plus across its US stores. The Google TV streaming box now retails for $39.88, $10 more than before. Even on its online store, Walmart now lists the Onn 4K Plus for $39.88 (via 9to5Google). Some stores still may be selling the streaming box at its older price, but that’s unlikely to last for long.
At almost $40, the Onn 4K Plus is still among the most value-for-money streaming boxes you can find. The price hike likely boils down to tariffs and rising DRAM and NAND costs. At its original price of $30, Walmart may not have had enough room to absorb these increases, thus forcing it to hike prices. A similar story is playing out in the smartphone market, with many companies already hiking the prices of their low-end and mid-range models.
The supply crunch behind the price hike
The price hike comes amidst shortages of the entire Onn lineup. Almost all the products are running low on stock or are sold out in most areas. This could also be due to the DRAM and NAND crisis, with Walmart failing to secure enough supplies to keep store shelves stocked.
Even after the price increase, the Onn 4K Plus remains a better buy than other Google TV streaming boxes. For comparison, the Google TV Streamer costs $80 in the US, making it twice as expensive as Walmart’s offering.
