While it’s a small feature, Google’s Calling Cards is a significant addition that adds a personal touch to an otherwise cold experience when flipping through your contact list and phone book. And while it used to be pretty tedious to get things set up, the brand has made a number of changes since its release to make it more streamlined.
And while the experience has been great on Pixel phones, the feature is still nowhere to be found on the Pixel Watch. Well, if you’ve been patiently waiting, that could soon change. Android Authority has evidence that the feature is in the works and that it could arrive in the very near future.
Coming straight from the source
Usually, news like this comes from an inside source or just happens to be found in the code of an app or beta release. But this time around, Google’s own support page shares the details, with a dedicated section outlining how to set up Calling Cards on Pixel Watch.
When it comes to the details, users will need to be using a Pixel Watch 2 or newer device that’s running Wear OS 4 or higher. Furthermore, the Pixel Watch must also be running version 150 or newer of the Google Phone app. In addition, the Pixel phone must be running Android 14 or later, and version 210 or newer of the Phone app.
Basically, just get your Pixel phone and Pixel Watch updated to the latest version of all the above apps, and you should be good. Now, the interesting part about this feature is that it looks like the Pixel Watch will pull Calling Cards from the Pixel phone instead of having the data saved to the watch itself.
That’s because the help section states that there must be a connection present between the watch and phone in order for Calling Cards to display on the watch. While we’d love to see native support, this is a great start and certainly better than nothing. Of course, we don’t know when this is going to be released, but judging from what we’re seeing, it should be soon.
With that said, we’ll keep an eye on it and report the feature when it goes live. You can also periodically check your Pixel Watch to see if you can set this feature up and get it working.
