Gemini Live just made news briefings way less boring

Adamya Sharma / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Gemini Live now delivers deeper, interactive news summaries instead of basic headline dumps.
  • You can ask follow-up questions mid-conversation without needing to restart or rephrase.
  • Google Home app adds Android 16 support, including edge-to-edge UI and predictive back.

If you use Gemini Live for quick headlines, get ready for a big improvement. Google is adding more detailed, interactive news summaries right inside Live conversations. Now, you can explore stories in depth instead of just hearing the top headlines like an RSS feed.

Prior to this update, if you asked “What’s the latest news?” during a Live session, you’d get a basic overview. Now, the summaries are more detailed and, even better, they’re conversational. You can ask follow-up questions like “tell me more about that tech story” or “what’s the latest on that antitrust case?” without having to start over, according to Google’s updated Nest support page.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

Most voice assistants just give you the news as a quick announcement: headlines, a short summary, and that’s it. With Gemini Live’s latest update, you can stay in the same session and dive deeper into stories that matter, so you actually understand what’s happening instead of just skimming the surface.

You don’t need to look for a separate app update. If you’re already in the Gemini Live early access program, this feature is available now. Just start a conversation and ask for news. The system gathers information from various sources and lets you guide the conversation based on what interests you.
