OPPO just announced an Android umbrella with a 4K display and thrusters!

TL;DR

  • OPPO has announced the Find U, a smart umbrella rated for 600,000 folds, featuring the Find N6’s hinge technology.
  • Find U features a faux-leather canopy that doubles as a 4K display on the inside.
  • It has micro-thrusters that supposedly give you a gentle push forward, up to 0.5G.
  • OPPO will release it on April 31.

Just when you thought foldables had peaked, one smartphone maker has decided the next big form factor in the category won’t fit your pocket. Instead, it’ll sit above your head.

Meet OPPO’s Find U, the most extra “smart umbrella” you’ll ever need. It borrows everything from a flagship foldable playbook and absolutely refuses to stop there.

According to the company, the Find U packs the Find N6’s Flexion Hinge and has been rated for 600,000 folds. It features a faux-leather canopy that doubles as a 4K display on the inside, so you can domscroll while dodging raindrops. From that UI in the image, the Find U is most likely running Google’s Android Umbrella OS.

You can also long-press the handle to change the umbrella’s color, take photos with the built-in cameras, and even unlock the umbrella with your fingerprint.

Things only get more absurd from there. There’s a “Solar Mode” that turns the canopy into a charger, a self-drying mode that vibrates water away at 60,000Hz, and AI-powered wind resistance with micro-thrusters that give you a gentle push forward, up to 0.5G.

Naturally, the umbrella is rated IP56, IP58, and IP59, because a single certification isn’t enough for this thing.

Even OPPO’s Pete Lau couldn’t resist chiming in, saying: “I don’t remember approving this.”

Find U’s “launch” is scheduled for April 31, a date that, much like this umbrella, doesn’t actually exist.
