Google is bringing proactive Wallet and dining features to the At a Glance widget

Google finally lets you disable the Pixel launcher‘s dedicated At a Glance widget, preventing it from appearing on your device’s home screen.

I know people running stock Android that have disabled the widget, but I also know those who’ve kept it on, leveraging the widget’s newly-gained Sports and Finance integrations.

Rollout is now underway

Now, Google is planning subsequent updates to At a Glance to get more users to stick with the widget rather than hiding it. For reference, the widget is powered by Android System Intelligence, which also powers features like Live Caption, Now Playing, battery optimization features, and more.

With the latest Android System Intelligence vB.23.885134531 build, Google seems to have added code pointing at two new features, as unearthed by the folks over at Android Authority.

‘Passes Nearby’ and ‘Restaurant Insights’ in the works

The two new features in development are very literal.

We’ve already seen Passes Nearby in the works via Google Wallet. The feature automatically pulls up passes, like your boarding pass, for example, when you approach the airport.

On the other hand, Restaurant Insights, although new, sounds like a feature that will leverage your location data to give you information about the restaurant you’re at, including top menu items.

“Suggested menu items and insights based on your location,” reads Restaurant Insight’s toggle description, while Passes nearby’s description reads “Quickly access passes from your Google Wallet based on your location.” The latter, when available, might or might not require you to toggle on the Get notifications for this event ticket setting, as seen in the second screenshot above.

It’s worth noting that both Passes Nearby and Restaurant Insights are still in development. Manually toggling them on currently yields no results. It’s not entirely clear if and when the two new features will roll out.
