The Boys, Hacks, Malcolm in the Middle, and more

This week is all about beginnings and endings and not necessarily in that order.

Hacks and The Boys have returned for their final seasons, and Euphoria has probably done the same. Meanwhile, Malcolm in the Middle is back from a hiatus of 20 years and two familiar faces reappear on the small screen.

The Boys: Season 5 (Prime Video)

It’s the final season of The Boys and the titular tribe is ready to take on Homelander’s reign using an anti-Supes virus. The first two episodes premiere this weekend and I won’t give away anything here, but they are even more explosive than you’d expect.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair (Hulu)

I have to concede that I was never a Malcolm in the Middle fan, but as someone who has suffered through a mishandled reboot or two (And Just Like That, I am glaring at you), I hope that this one is done well for the fans. Malcolm has somehow found himself estranged from his family but returns to see them for Hal and Lois’ 40th anniversary party.

Big Mistakes (Netflix)

Since the end of Schitt’s Creek, there’s been too little of Dan Levy on screen aside from memes. In Big Mistakes, he stars alongside another iconic sister. This time though he’s a pastor and she’s a teacher. They both get recruited into organized crime through a small theft on her part that turns into something far more serious for them and hilarious for us.

Hacks: Season 5 (HBO Max)

Deborah Vance’s career might have had its ups and downs over the four prior seasons of Hacks, but the show itself has seen a steady stream of accolades and awards. While reports of Vance’s death at the end of last season were greatly exaggerated, the show is indeed over at the end of this season. But you know it’s going to go out in spectacular style.

The Miniature Wife (Peacock)

You can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Greggs, and likewise, Succession had to go for Tom, aka Matthew Macfayden, to be free to pursue projects like the series The Miniature Wife. He can’t get too far away from Tom though, because he plays a man experiencing a power struggle in his marriage. He does handle things differently, considerably differently; he shrinks his wife so that she’s just six inches high. Shiv would never stand for that.

Euphoria: Season 3 (HBO Max)

Euphoria is too grounded in the grit of real life to be a sci-fi show, but there is a time jump from last season. That’s because it’s hard to hide that the actors are now too old to convincingly play high school students. Their new career paths? Sydney Sweeney’s character has found Only Fans fame, Jacob Elordi’s is selling real estate, and Zendaya is a drug runner.
