RESTOCK ALERT: Walmart restocked its supply of next-gen consoles on the first day of its official Black Friday sale (Monday, Nov. 22). The all-digital Xbox Series S was still available there at the time of writing — get it for $299.

Walmart pulled out all the stops for members of its paying Walmart+ subscription service on the first day of its official Black Friday sale (Monday, Nov. 22): Not only did they get to shop all of its deals four hours sooner than everyone else, but they also got exclusive access to a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X restock.

In what will come as no surprise to literally anyone, both of those next-gen consoles are long sold out. But in a strange twist, the same doesn’t apply to the Xbox Series S: It was still up for grabs at Walmart at the time of writing. (Better yet, it wasn’t marked way up from its $299 list price.) How’s that for Thanksgiving leftovers?

For the uninitiated, the Series S is the all-digital (disc drive-free) version of Microsoft’s latest console, which it bills as its “smallest, sleekest” yet. The little guy comes with 512GB of storage and four times the processing power of the Xbox One, along with support for features like HDMI 2.1, up to 120fps gameplay, Dolby Vision, and DirectX Raytracing (for realistic lighting).

It’s also fully backward compatible with games from every previous Xbox console — even some that ran on the original Xbox from 2001 (like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic); that’s something we can’t say about the new PS5, which can only play “the overwhelming majority” of PS4 titles.

FWIW, Walmart is one of several retailers offering the “Xbox All Access” payment option that lets you bundle a Series S with a two-year Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan at $24.99 a month for 24 months (with no upfront cost). That’ll get you up and running with over 100 games, online multiplayer access, an EA Play membership.
