Caddyshack Golf Cars Builds Golf Carts That Look Like Real(-ish) Cars

“I told him I was thinking about building some golf carts and he said ‘let’s build some Shelby Cobra golf carts’ and we did,” Martin tells MotorTrend. And that is the story of how, today, you can buy an officially licensed gas or electric Shelby Cobra golf cart from Caddyshack Golf Cars in any one of six colors with painted stripes and ultra-suede Shelby logo’d seats. Options include a ball and club washer, dash and roof fan, custom Alpine stereo system with Bluetooth, ice chest, and much more.

Speaking of more, next to the links-ready Shelby Cobra 427, Caddyshack Golf Cars also offers carts in myriad real-car costumes. There is a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, regular Mustang Fastback, and Chevrolet Camaro, for example. The Camaro not only sports far more outward visibility than the real thing, it is electric and includes 14-inch wheels and can reach 19.5 mph.

If you need something tougher to jump those sand traps in, check out the company’s new Ford F-150 Raptor cart that goes on sale this summer. The cart seats two and the mini-Raptor sports a fiberglass body, fold-down windshield and tailgate, louvers and side vents, and a rear cargo box for your clubs. The lifted little Ford rolls on sweet looking custom 12-inch aluminum wheels.

Powertrain options include a 48-volt DC electric motor or a 400-cc (0.4-liter!) gas engine that’s good for about 13.5 horsepower. Inside, there are standard cup holders for your beverages, dashboard storage pockets, and marine-grade vinyl seats with Raptor logos for all types of weather.

Looking for something more exotic—how about a classic Porsche Speedster? It has a locking frunk, a canopy headliner, 13-inch aluminum wheels, cute round headlights and teardrop-shaped rear lights.

Martin tells us that Caddyshack Golf Carts company has sold over 8,000 officially licensed golf cars worldwide to date. The golf carts are made in La Quinta, California and start around $12,000 for a Mustang and go up from there. The company can also build your customized dream machine to attack the greens on—or just to match your street ride.
