How to share a Spotify playlist

December 6, 2021

In ancient times, before the internet and streaming music, making a mixtape for a loved one was a widely recognised signal of affection. Now such thoughtful gifts have been replaced by playlists in music streaming services like Spotify. While no less meaningful, such digital playlists are much easier to make and share.

Here’s how to share a Spotify playlist.

  1. Open Spotify.

  2. Click or tap on the playlist you wish to share.

  3. Click or tap on the “…” located to the left on the screen, in line with the play button. This will open a menu.

From here, you have different options for how to share the playlist depending on whether you’re using Spotify’s desktop or mobile app.

On desktop

Sharing a Spotify playlist is fairly straightforward on desktop.

  1. From this menu, select “Share” to open a sub-menu.

  2. Click “Copy link to playlist.” This will copy a link to the playlist which you can then paste in a chat, email, or wherever else you wish.

On mobile

Sharing a Spotify playlist from the mobile app is slightly more complicated, simply because there are so many options for how to do it.

To share a scannable Spotify Code:

4. Tap the image at the top of the menu to enlarge it. It will have a Spotify Code along its bottom.

5. Tap “Save to photos” to save the image, or alternatively screenshot it. Note that you will have to give Spotify access to your photos in order to “Save to photos.”

6. Send the image to your recipient. They can then use their phone camera to scan the code in their Spotify app and access the playlist.

To share via a link:

4. From this menu, select “Share” to open a new window.

5. Similarly to the desktop app, tap “Copy link” to get a link to the playlist. You can then paste this link and send it in a message to your recipient.

To share directly into another app:

4. From this menu, select “Share” to open a new window.

5. Select which app you want to share your playlist to from the rows of icons at the bottom of the screen. Options may include Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram.

6. Grant Spotify permission to open the relevant app. It will automatically create a draft post or message containing a link to the playlist.

7. Customise the draft message if you’d like, then send or publish it as normal in your selected app.
