TL;DR

  • OnePlus has pulled its build of Oxygen OS 12, based on Android 12, for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro.
  • Shortly after the update rolled out, users all around the web complained of bugs and missing features.
  • The company says it’ll issue a new update “ASAP,” though no other timeframe was given.

Apps crashing, slow animations, and lots of missing features: It doesn’t sound pleasant to deal with these things on your smartphone, yet OnePlus 9 series users have been experiencing all three since OnePlus rolled out the stable build of Oxygen OS 12 earlier this week.

We reported on the issues that OnePlus 9 users around the internet have been experiencing, and it looks like OnePlus has heard our collective cries. The company has officially pulled the stable Oxygen OS 12 update from the OnePlus 9 series. In a statement to Android Police, the company said:

We are aware of the issues caused by the OxygenOS 12 update and our software team is fixing them. We will suspend this software update and roll out a new iteration as soon as possible.

The statement above is all we have from OnePlus on the subject, so we’re not sure when the company plans to issue a new, more stable build of Oxygen OS 12. We will certainly keep you updated as we learn more.

Since the update rolled out on December 6, users on Twitter, Reddit, and official OnePlus forums have complained of the new software’s issues. Some users complained of a black screen showing for a few seconds after unlocking the phone, while another user claimed the task manager was not closing all apps as it should.

And those are just the functional issues with the software. OnePlus’ build of Oxygen OS 12, which is based on Android 12, is missing many features that were present in older builds of Oxygen OS. Many users complain that the Google Feed can no longer be turned off, which has struck a particularly loud chord throughout the OnePlus community.

If the Oxygen OS 12 update is available for your phone, we suggest holding off on updating your device until we hear more from OnePlus.
