New The Batman Poster Asks You To “Question Everything”

Director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) has released a neat though subtle animation hinting at the tone of his upcoming film, The Batman. The movie is due to arrive on March 4, 2022.

In the quick clip Reeves shared on Twitter, a red-tinted silhouette of Batman’s rain-drenched profile becomes a garish question mark–which even fairweather Batman fans will understand as a clear nod to The Riddler. As previously reported, the film will feature Paul Dano as Eddie Nygma AKA The Riddler, John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman, and Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon. In case you missed it, the DC Fandome trailer for The Batman showed off Gotham City, the Dark Knight’s war on crime, and the Riddler’s schemes in explosive detail back in October. Check out the newer clip below.

As Reeves is kicking into higher gear on the runway to release, he also said in a recent interview that The Batman’s Bruce Wayne is inspired by Kurt Cobain. Reeves told Empire, “Rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version we’ve seen before, there’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.”

The Batman will also spawn two spin-offs, including one that will feature actor Colin Farrell reprising his role as The Penguin. Reeves is also developing an HBO Max series that will focus on the Gotham City Police Department.
