Spider-Man: No Way Home Concept Artist Images Tom Holland In Venom Symbiote Suit

A post-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home gave us an idea of how Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man might come into contact with the alien symbiote known as Venom. Now, concept artist Thomas du Crest, who worked on No Way Home, has posted his idea of what Peter Parker might look like wearing the symbiote suit.

This art is by no means official, as du Crest himself says.

“While I wait for the greenlight to show the work I did for [Spider-Man: No Way Home], here is a small take on what might come next,” the artist wrote, accompanying the tweet with four images of Holland in his take on the Venom suit.

The images feature Holland in a neutral pose, two each of close-up and medium shots. The suit fits Holland’s leaner physique (compared to Tom Hardy, who played Venom in Sony’s films of the same name), but uses the texture of those films, making it look more like a living thing. In the comics, it’s Peter who meets the suit first, having obtained it during the 1984 Secret Wars storyline. Peter wore the suit for a time before discovering its true nature, which prompted him to sever his symbiotic connection with it.

Unlike Sony’s Venom films, however, this suit prominently features a white spider logo across Holland’s chest. The Sony Venom movies capture the essence of the character but have not yet been able to connect him to Spider-Man, meaning that there would be no reason for him to wear a spider logo. In the comics, both Venom and host Eddie Brock bore a grudge against Spider-Man, giving the pair a reason to imitate the suit.

Spider-Man has already fought a host of villains, including Vulture and Mysterio, along with the cadre of villains seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He hasn’t yet faced Venom, though; the only time Spidey has faced Venom on-screen was in Sam Raimi’s 2007 film Spider-Man 3, which was maligned by fans and critics alike for being overfull with villains and not giving Venom room to develop as a character.

At the time of that film’s release, Raimi (who is currently directing Doctor Strange 2 for Marvel Studios) told Collider that then-president of Marvel Entertainment, Avi Arad, pushed him to include Venom in the film after the script was finished and already featured James Franco as the second Green Goblin and Thomas Hayden Church as Flint Marko/Sandman.

With Sony’s development of Venom and that No Way Home post-credits scene, it seems like a given that Spidey and the symbiote will meet at some point, giving the two a second chance to make a splash on the big screen. For now, though, du Crest’s art is hopeful imagining.

A fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man has not yet been announced. Spider-Man: No Way Home should hit VOD and streaming this spring.
