There’s one 2022 phone you’re really keen to see

2022 has just begun and we’re expecting it to be a pretty solid year in the smartphone space. We’re seeing more foldable phones to rival Samsung’s wares, Mediatek finally seems to have a proper rival to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon silicon, and the mid-range continues to make impressive gains.

We’re expecting loads of high-quality phones this year, but which ones are the most eagerly anticipated devices? We asked Android Authority readers and here’s what you said.

Which phone are you looking forward to the most in 2022?

Results

Over 1,700 votes were tallied after we posted this poll on January 5, and it turns out that the most popular pick was Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series. Just over 24% of respondents said it was the phone they were looking forward to the most in 2022.

This isn’t a surprise, as Samsung’s Galaxy S series is essentially the face of Android in markets around the world. Furthermore, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to gain an S Pen slot for the first time in the mainline Galaxy S series, making it an intriguing device for Note fans.

In second place was the Google Pixel 7 series, with almost 18% of polled readers saying this was the phone they were most looking forward to in 2022. Google hit the ball out of the park with the Pixel 6 series, bringing new camera hardware as well as a custom chipset for the first time. So we imagine that many enthusiasts are keen to see how Google can build on that.

An Android phone doesn’t round out the podium though, as the third-most popular pick was the iPhone 14 range with 11.5% of the vote. Apple’s 2022 iPhones are tipped to finally ditch the wide notch in favor of a punch-hole cutout, while leaks also point to under-display face unlock and a 48MP main camera for 8K recording.

Otherwise, Sony’s Xperia 1 IV and the Google Pixel 6a round out the top five. Some of the phones bringing up the rear include the Honor Magic V (0.29%), Redmi K50 series (0.5%), and Oppo Find X4/X5 Pro (0.8%). We’re guessing this sentiment might change closer to launch for Redmi and Oppo’s phones in particular.

Comments

  • Techngro: Looking forward to whoever makes the best mid-range device for $300.
  • senorsmile: Pinephone pro!
  • Farhan Ahmad Tajuddin: Definitely eyeing on Mk4 Sony Xperia 1/5 and ASUS Zenfone 9. Sony and ASUS are currently the only brand that still keep the still-relevant 3.5mm headphone jack on flagship models. I’m not sure if there will be a Motorola RAZR 2022, although it would be interesting to see it happen for real since the RAZR 5G 2020 still has a great-looking design to date.
  • 🇦🇺Marshall: Surprised the Mi 12 family rates so low, given how many beatings the 11 handed out.
  • Konrad Uroda-Darłak: Everything is boring. Maybe next year 🙂
  • nemo: Sony xperia 5 mark 4

Thanks for voting in our poll and for leaving a comment! Are there any specific device segments you’re looking forward to in 2022 (e.g. foldables, traditional flagships, mid-range)?
