Apple iPhone SE 2020 WhiteApple

This week in Apple news we saw the launch of the new iPhone SE. The budget-oriented iPhone comes with Apple’s most advanced processor, wireless charging, an IP rating, and more, all for the low price of $399.

In other Apple news, we heard some more rumors related to the upcoming iPhone 12 series, saw some original Apple Watch prototypes go up for sale, heard some good news and bad news about shipments of certain Apple-branded products, and more!

See the Apple news roundup below for all the latest.

The top Apple news stories of the past week:

  • Say hello to the new iPhone SE: Apple dropped its newest iPhone on Wednesday, the iPhone SE. The phone looks a lot like an iPhone 8, right down to its solitary rear camera lens, Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the front, and 4.7-inch display. However, it’s packing quite a punch on the inside, and Android OEMs should be nervous.
  • Say goodbye to the iPhone 8: On the same day as Apple launched the iPhone SE, it also discontinued the iPhone 8, which makes perfect sense. At this point, as long as you didn’t want the iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone SE is the better buy.
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max design allegedly leaks: If you want to get a good idea of what the iPhone 12 Pro Max might look like, the design of the device just leaked. You can check out our article here summarizing the changes that could come with the new model.
  • Apple-branded over-ear headphones on the way: We’ve heard rumors about them for a while now, but it looks pretty much assured that we’ll see Apple-branded overears this year. The high-end headphones might have magnetically swappable parts so you can really make them your own.
  • Original Apple Watch prototypes up for sale: If you want to own a piece of history, some original prototypes of the Apple Watch are now up for sale. The prototypes all look very much like the first Apple Watch to hit store shelves, but with a few notable design and feature differences. See the full rundown over at Motherboard.
  • Apple does its Apple thing with $700 wheels: If you want some wheels for your ultra-expensive Mac Pro desktop computer, Apple will help you out with that — to the tune of $700. For four wheels. For a computer. We’re serious.
  • iPhone sales in China jump up after a big slump: Apple hasn’t been doing too well in China as far as iPhone sales go, but last month saw at least a glimmer of good news for the brand. Apple managed to ship 2.5 million iPhones in China in March 2020, which is slightly better than February, which saw Apple having one of its worst months ever in the country.
  • Mac sales took a dive, but not because of low demand: The PC market had a bad first quarter this year, but not because people don’t want PCs. In fact, demand for Macs and other computers is higher than ever recently due to everyone needing to work from home, but the supply just isn’t there.
