One of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus phones?

TL;DR

  • A new leak has revealed an upcoming Lenovo flagship phone.
  • The so-called Lenovo Halo could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.

Lenovo isn’t known for its flagship phones, but it offered the Lenovo Legion Duel high-end gaming phone in 2020 and the Duel 2 last year. The company doesn’t seem to be stopping here though.

Veteran leaker Evan Blass has now leaked a new flagship-level phone called the Lenovo Halo. Blass posted apparent renders of the phone (seen below) as well as specs, specifically saying that it shouldn’t be confused with the Duel 2 follow-up.

Perhaps the most notable claim is that the phone will arrive with a so-called SM8475 chipset featuring a 4nm design and Adreno 730 GPU. We’re guessing this is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus or a similar mid-year refresh. After all, the current chipset is a 4nm design and is said to have an Adreno 730 GPU (Qualcomm refrained from dishing out a specific model number for the GPU this year). The SM8475 designation also suggests that this is related to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (which has the SM8450 name).

Earlier rumors point to this chipset being built by TSMC rather than Samsung. TSMC is said to be superior to Samsung in this regard, which could translate to better battery life, improved thermals, and better sustained performance.

Other notable apparent specs include a 6.67-inch 144Hz OLED screen (FHD+), 8/12/16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 68W wired charging. The Lenovo Halo is also tipped to get a triple rear camera system (50MP/13MP/2MP), a 16MP selfie camera, and a design that’s under 8mm thick.

Blass adds that the device is expected to arrive in Q3 2022, which is in line with a mid-year refresh for Qualcomm’s flagship silicon. The leaker didn’t have any pricing info just yet, so we’ll likely have to wait a while to hear anything official.
