I don’t see how millions of gamers being locked out of games is hilarious. But to Nintendo’s point, I understand it, but I disagree with it. Plain and simple Nintendo doesn’t need to do this at all, they sell based on their exclusive IPs, so 3rd party support doesn’t really hurt them, especially WESTERN 3rd party support.
Now if we’re talking Japanese 3rd parties they will have to do something because Sony would force their hand, just like MS has done to them currently in the West. If Sony buys Capcom, Square, Bandai-Namco, Sega, Konami, Tecmo, then they have a monopoly in that market and Nintendo would lose some key franchises that helped them like Monster Hunter, JRPGs, lose their co-development for Smash, the majority of anime games, loss their Nintendo Dynasty Warrior games, etc….
I still don’t think that would be anywhere near enough to threaten Nintendo’s dominate, but it would be foolish of them not to scoop up at least 1 of those companies (most likely Sega and/or Tecmo), and would likely be a requirement from the Japanese government to prevent such a takeover by Sony.
Sony: Capcom, Square, Bandai-Namco, Konami (co-publishing deal, don’t buy them just publish the IPs)
Nintendo: Sega, Tecmo
I don’t see anything really wrong with that, and it’s good for both companies ONLY IF IT HAS TO BE DONE.
