TL;DR

  • The Oppo Find X5 Pro and Find X5 series will launch on February 24, 2022.
  • Oppo will broadcast a livestream of the event at 6:00 AM ET that day.
  • Oppo emphasized the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 onboard as well as the phone’s photography prowess.

The last time we saw a huge flagship launch from Oppo was around this time in 2021. That’s when the company launched the Oppo Find X3 Pro and other phones in the Find X3 series.

Just like clockwork, we now have a formal launch event planned for the follow-up to that series. The Oppo Find X5 Pro and related Find X5 phones will launch on February 24, 2022. Oppo will reveal the phones during a public livestream at 6:00 AM ET that day as part of the Mobile World Congress 2022 event.

If you think you’re seeing things, it’s OK: Oppo is not releasing a Find X4 series, so you didn’t miss it. Many Chinese companies — including partner brand OnePlus — skip using the number four in product names because of a prevalent East Asian superstition called tetraphobia. So we’re skipping from the Find X3 series straight to the Find X5 series.

Oppo will divulge everything you could want to know about the Oppo Find X5 Pro at this launch. However, it did divulge a few details ahead of time. First, it confirmed the phone will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood. Second, it said photography smarts — specifically nighttime photography — will be a major aspect of the phone’s cameras.

You’ll need to wait for the launch to find out everything else. We’ll have plenty of coverage of the event (and MWC in general), so stay tuned!
