TL;DR: As of March 3, this Petoi Bittle: Palm-Sized Robot Dog costs $299, which is 9% less than its regular price of $329.

You may have seen those terrifying Boston Dynamic robot dogs. And while they’re certainly unsettling, you have to admit, they’re also extremely cool.

Now, you can make your own petite palm-sized robot dog at home with the help of the Petoi Bittle kit. And it’s currently on sale for $299, down from $329.

Funded fully (and then some) on Kickstarter with over half a million dollars, the Petoi Bittle base construction kit lets you create your own open-source bionic robot dog that fits in the palm of your hand.

Highly programmable with Scratch, C++, Python, and highly extensible with Raspberry Pi and Arduino, this kit helps you build your coding and STEM skills while bringing something tangible to life. For some, an actual robot that works may be a much more satisfying way to learn to code and experiment with machine learning.

You’ll download demo codes on GitHub and assemble the puzzle-like frame to build Bittle’s five-component system. Its legged motion resembles a real animal, just like the creepy-cool Boston Dynamics robots, only in a much smaller format.

See the completed Bittle in action:

Because of Petoi Bittle’s open-source platform, you can share tricks and tips and learn from others in the community to teach yours new skills. Use a customized Arduino board to coordinate all instinctive and sophisticated movements or injec AI abilities by mounting a Raspberry Pi chip on board. The options are endless when it comes to robotics — but it all starts by putting the Bittle together.

It’s built for adults and kids over the age of 14, but littler ones can play with the finished product alongside an adult. Your real-life dog, on the other hand, will probably run far away.
