Here’s the thick bottom bezel of the OSOM OV1

TL;DR

  • For the first time, we can see part of the real front of the OSOM OV1.
  • The phone is the spiritual successor to the Essential Phone.
  • Unfortunately, the bottom bezel of the device is very thick.

Now, we have a look at (part of) the front of the phone, known as the OSOM OV1. Us seeing the front of the device is mostly secondary to OSOM’s true intention, which is to show off its privacy-centric cable with a data-transfer killswitch.

While this is the first time the team has shown off the real display of the OV1, it’s not the first time it’s attempted to show it off. Earlier this week, it posted an image of a display that looked very suspicious since it had a razor-thin bottom bezel. This time around, we appear to be seeing the real bezel.

You can see the image below for yourself.

As you can see, the OSOM OV1 won’t have the bottom bezel the company originally suggested. This shouldn’t be too surprising when you consider the other design elements of the phone. They include a dual-lens rear camera, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and other hallmarks of mid-range devices.

Interestingly, the phone has Proton Mail, the Brave browser, and Signal installed. It could be possible that these security-focused apps would come pre-installed on the phone. Conversely, it could just be that OSOM is trying to emphasize the privacy angle of the device.

OSOM promises its first phone will launch towards the end of 2022 with a Snapdragon 8-series chip under the hood. However, it may release the privacy cable before it launches the phone. Stay tuned for official announcements.
