Good morning, Wordlers! The clock has chimed midnight and the Wordle has been made new, with an all-new quintet of colorful characters lurking in the shadows of our 5×6 grids, waiting to be unearthed.

Whether you haven’t found today’s solution yet and can’t bear to sacrifice your streak, or you just want to cruelly prank your Wordle-obsessed work BFF by dropping hints in their inbox, below is a series of crafty clues to help you find the answer to today’s Wordle, game number 276.

Or if you just want today’s answer, scroll to the bottom.

If you feel like you’re struggling more with Wordle lately, you’re not alone — but it’s not getting harder. (Maybe you’re just tired? Everything is very tiring right now, even word games.) Try our tips for helpful strategies and the best starting words to up your game. You can also practice by playing the whole Wordle archive of past games, stretch your brain with one of the many Wordle clones, or go all out with the 31-word Grand Slam. Or get the fun without the stress by watching people play it on TikTok.

Can I have a subtle clue for today’s answer?

Yes! Here it is: Today’s word is an onomatopoeia. That means it’s a word that sounds a bit like the noise it’s describing.

Does today’s Wordle answer have a double letter?

Yes, Virginia. One letter appears twice.

Is today’s Wordle answer an obscure word?

Not especially! It might not be a word you use every day, and there’s a one-letter variation on it you probably use more often — but it’s relatively common, so the New York Times has left it in the word list.

Can I have another clue?

Sure! When used in the past tense, it’s a British slang term for drunk.

I’m still stumped. What’s the double letter?

OK, fine. It’ssssssss…. S.

Please just tell me what today’s Wordle answer is.

Your wish is my command. You ready?

It is…

SLOSH.

Not the hardest word we’ve had to deduce, but not the easiest, either. Your carefully honed, vowel-heavy starter words probably didn’t help you here, with that 4-1 consonant-vowel ratio; and while S is very common, L and H are part of what I like to think of as the second-string team of consonants, only getting pulled off the bench when your starters have failed to score. Plus there’s that sneaky extra S.

If you couldn’t quite solve it on your own, don’t despair! There’s always tomorrow.
