Here’s the ‘Wordle’ answer for March 25

March 25, 2022

Good morning Wordlers! It’s a beautiful day to break your brain by staring at a virtual keyboard until all the letters look fake and you forget literally every five-letter word you’ve ever read or spoken. Today’s Wordle answer can be found down the bottom of this post, but if you’re still trying to come by the solution to Wordle #279 honestly on this fine Friday, scroll slowly down through the handy clues we’ve lined up below to get a nudge in the right direction.

To keep your Wordle skills sharp, check out our suggestions for the best starting words and some tips to maximise every guess. If your addiction shows no sign of abating, try playing the whole archive of past Wordles or the 31-word Grand Slam (aka Untrigintordle) — or embrace two kinds of nerdery by exploring Wordle clones for specific fandoms. While it might feel like Wordle is getting harder, we promise that is not the case. For something different, try non-word based versions like Worldle (guess the country) or Heardle (guess the pop song intro).

Can I have a subtle clue for today’s answer?

Sure can! It’s in the name of a very large American retail chain.

Does today’s Wordle word have a double letter?

Not today! Five letters, all different.

Is today’s Wordle answer an obscure word?

Not at all. It’s maybe not the most exciting word, but you’ve definitely heard it before.

Can I have another clue?

Sure thing! The last letter is actually silent.

I’m still stumped. What vowels does it use?

O and E, but not necessarily in that order.

Please just tell me what today’s Wordle answer is.

Since you asked nicely… sure.

Ready?

Today’s word is…

DEPOT.

Yes, like the place where you buy stuff for your Home.

You’ve got T, O, and E, which are all pretty common, but you won’t necessarily be reaching for that P or D in your first guess. And that silent T at the end isn’t a super common thing in English — like a lot of sneaky pronunciations, you can blame the French for that one. (Technically, you can blame English for stealing words and being all like “Whatever” when it comes to working out how they’re supposed to sound.)

So if it took you a little while and a few hints to get there, that’s OK! And if you pulled a sneaky to maintain your streaky, well, we don’t snitch.
