Google Pixel 6a models suggest wider global release

TL;DR

  • There are four model numbers at the FCC that all appear to reference the Google Pixel 6a.
  • It’s difficult to say for certain, but this strongly suggests a wider global release than we saw for the Pixel 5a.
  • It’s possible Google could launch the latest A-series phone during Google I/O in May.

Thankfully, it appears the Google Pixel 6a might not fully repeat this strategy (via MySmartPrice). While it’s very likely the phone would look incredibly similar to the Google Pixel 6, it might have a wider release than just the United States and Japan. This is evidenced by a new series of FCC listings which all appear to reference the Pixel 6a.

Google Pixel 6a model numbers

The four model numbers are as follows:

  • A4RGB62Z
  • A4RG1AZG
  • A4RGX7AS
  • A4RGB17L

The first three are almost certainly related to the Pixel 6a. The last one, A4RGB17L, is a bit of a wildcard. It’s a relatively safe bet that it is also a Google Pixel 6a variant, though.

Now, there might be multiple model numbers for just one country. For example, it appears one of them (A4RGX7AS) would have support for bands N38 and N41. Another (A4RG1AZG) appears to support mmWave connectivity. These two models could both land in the United States and nowhere else, for example.

However, the existence of this many models does suggest we should see a wider international release for the Google Pixel 6a. It may only be one or a handful of more countries, but it would appear likely that people outside of the US and Japan would be able to buy one.

It’s possible Google could launch this phone at Google I/O 2022, which starts on May 11. Stay tuned!
