John Wick 4 Has A “Bit Of A Conclusion To It,” Director Says

John Wick 4 is one of 2023’s most-anticipated action movies, and now director Chad Stahelski has shared some new details about it. Speaking to Collider, Stahelski said Chapter 4–or whatever title it’s given–will tell a story of John’s “existential crisis.” It will also serve as a “conclusion” of sorts.

“I think Chapter 4 is a good continuation of all three previous films, and it’s got a bit of a conclusion to it, which is great,” he said. “We introduce a ton of new characters that have a lot to say about John Wick from his past and from, obviously, present. I think it’s brotherhood, it’s hope. It’s what the life would really be like as a bit of an existential crisis with John, and I think that’s the fun part of the movie.”

A trailer for John Wick 4 shown at CinemaCon featured Ian McShane’s character, Winston, alluding to this existential crisis. “I want you to find peace, John. The only path this leads to is death,” Winston says.

The John Wick series is known for its over-the-top action, and that’s set to continue in John Wick 4. Stahelski teased that Keanu Reeves has “some new skill sets” for the film, including some new props.

“We were fortunate enough to land some very interesting stunt teams from all over the world. And each stunt team from the different countries, the Japanese stunt team, the French stunt team, the Bulgarian stunt team, they all have a little bit of flavor of motion, and I think that helps change the set pieces as well,” Stahelski said. “When you get all these different experts and different martial arts, it forces us to adapt the choreography to show different things. It’s fun.”

In addition to John Wick 4, movie studio Lionsgate is producing a spinoff called Ballerina, which features Ana de Armas in the lead role.

As for Stahelski, he is also set to direct the movie based on the PlayStation game Ghost of Tsushima.
