Netflix’s ‘The School for Good and Evil’ teaser has the YA fantasy’s fans screaming

Netflix’s Geeked Week is off to a good start for fantasy fans.

First we had the teaser for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman adaptation, and now we have our first glimpse of another big franchise coming to the streamer — Paul Feig’s movie adaptation of Soman Chainani’s YA fantasy series first published in 2013.

The School for Good and Evil follows two friends from the village of Gavaldon, Sophie (Sophie Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie), who are taken to a magical school (no, not Hogwarts) in which fairy tale heroes and villains are trained in the ways of — you guessed it — good and evil. But unluckily for Sophie and Agatha, they’re sent to separate schools — and the wrong ones.

The cast is huge, with Kerry Washington as the head of the School of Good, Professor Dovey, and Charlize Theron taking on the dean of the School of Evil, Lady Lesso, while Michelle Yeoh plays Professor Anemone, and Laurence Fishburne plays the Schoolmaster. Shadow and Bone‘s Kit Young is taking on the role of Rafal, a mysterious figure who has destructive plans for the school. The reaction from fans of the books has been similarly large online.
