Rainbow Six Siege Details New Grand Larceny Event, Which Is Now Live

Ubisoft has announced a new limited-time mode for its multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six Siege, and it’s an interesting one. Titled Grand Larceny, players are sorted into two teams of attackers and defenders in a customized version of the game’s Hereford map.

Rather than defusing a bomb or freeing hostages, in this new “Stolen Goods” mode, the attackers are tasked with opening a certain number of safeboxes, which the defenders must prevent from happening. As usual, either side also wins if they eliminate all others in the opposing team. However, your weaponry is quite limited: the attackers don’t have their usual drones, and everyone is equipped with the same shotgun.

Most of the flooring in the area is quite fragile, and there’s no metal beams to keep you on the same floor, so players will need to watch their footing. Due to the nature of the mode, a certain number of the game’s operators aren’t available in it, including Glaz, Nomad, Buck, and several others. Check out the full list below.

The event also comes with a bevy of loot, with gear inspired by the early 20th century in Britain, complete with jaunty hats and neckerchiefs. These also include weapon skins in the style of Art Deco. It’s currently live, and will last until May 19.

We recently re-reviewed Rainbow Six Siege more than four years after its original launch. Our critic Mat Paget gave the game a rare 10, calling it “not only a compelling shooter, but one of the best examples of the genre.” In other Siege news, Ubisoft recently pushed an emergency patch to nerf Ying, a character that it’s adjusted in several patches as of late. The studio also acknowledged that reports of cheating have increased in recent months, and it’s to fix it.
