You really don’t care for HTC’s metaverse phone

HTC teased a so-called “metaverse phone” earlier this year, and the expectation was that the company would offer a powerful device with augmented reality and virtual reality capabilities.

The end-product turned out to be the mid-range HTC Desire 22 Pro, packing budget specs for the most part as well as token support for HTC’s mobile-based VR headset. So what did readers think of this device? Here’s what you told us.

HTC Desire 22 Pro: Hot or not?

Results

We posted our poll inside the HTC Desire 22 Pro news story, and over 1,200 votes were counted as of writing. It turns out that 84.27% of polled readers thought the phone wasn’t hot at all.

We’re guessing that HTC calling it a “metaverse phone” in the run-up to launch left people underwhelmed when we got a mid-ranger instead. It doesn’t help that phones from other companies work with HTC’s Vive Flow headset as well, with the Desire 22 Pro doing nothing different in this regard.

Just under 16% of respondents thought the phone was indeed hot. The phone isn’t amazingly priced at ~$490, but you do get two rare mid-range features in an IP67 rating and wireless charging.

Comments

  • Superguy: At least this phone is more realistically priced for what it is, unlike other HTC offerings of recent memory.
  • PRSXFENG: It’s still sad to see what was once a top manufacturer fall down so low
  • 🇦🇺Marshall: I’ve only ever owned the first Desire and the OG Pixel, both of which were great devices in their time. The way things are these days, HTC should just pull the pin.
