Google Play Points now work at Google Store

TL;DR

  • You can now use Google Play Points at the Google Store.
  • You can trade in your points towards pre-determined discount codes.
  • Be careful: you have just 30 days to redeem your code(s).

Today, the company is allowing you to convert Google Play Points to Google Store discounts.

As first spotted by 9to5Google, the program appears to only be active in the United States. Essentially, you can trade in your earned points for discount codes at the Google Store. These codes come in pre-determined denominations: $10, $50, $100, and $200. These cost 500, 2,500, 5,000, and 10,000 Play Points respectively. You can only “buy” one code from each tier.

Once you’ve traded your points for a discount code, you have 30 days to use that code before it expires. In other words, make sure you are ready to buy something from the Google Store before trading in your points.

Do note that you can’t stack these discounts. In other words, if you have 3,000 points and buy a $50 code and then use your remaining 500 points for a $10 code, you can’t combine those two codes for one purchase. So plan accordingly.

This new program is just in time for Google’s two newest products: the Google Pixel 6a and Google Pixel Buds Pro. Hopefully, the program will still be active when the Google Pixel 7 rolls around, as getting a $200 discount on one of those phones would be a sweet deal.
