Netflix’s Resident Evil Showrunner Wants Lady D To Show Up In Future Seasons

The first season of Netflix’s Resident Evil live-action adaptation is out now, and showrunner Andrew Dabb has shared in a new interview with Polygon where the show might be headed next. Among the highlights that could be in the show’s future, fan favorite character Lady Dimitrescu from 2021’s Resident Evil Village could be in the series–eventually.

“Over the course of the series, I want to bring everything in,” Dabb said. “Left to my own devices, I want Lady D, I want the plant monster, I want it all. I want everything, but judiciously [and] responsibly over time.”

The “judiciously” and “responsibly” is an apparent response to the new Netflix version’s divisive reception–the show ran into some friction with how it uses the entire canon of games as backstory. Meaning, as Dabb told GameSpot earlier this month that, “From that [the latest game], things will diverge. So we’re gonna go one direction, the games are gonna go their own direction… Capcom has their own plans for the game and how that story moves forward. These events inform our backstory.”

But for fans of Lady Dimitrescu–who enjoyed a surge of popularity leading up to Village’s release–this is encouraging news as back in May, Dabb cautioned fans that he doesn’t want to “wedge characters in that don’t fit organically.” But, as the Dumb and Dumber meme says, he’s telling us there’s a chance.

Netflix’s Resident Evil live-action series is set in two distinct time periods–what’s happening in 2022, before the downfall of the world thanks to the T-virus, as well as a zombie-filled post-apocalyptic 2036. For those who follow the games, the 2022 storyline will more or less fall in line with Resident Evil Village. Dabb has also indicated that if the show sticks around long enough to still be running when a new Resident Evil game comes out, what Capcom comes up with could plausibly be incorporated.
