TL;DR

  • A new report claims to have more info on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatch models.
  • One interesting tidbit is that the Pro model last up to 80 hours of battery life on a single charge.
  • The smartwatches are due to be officially revealed on August 10.

Among the devices we expect to see at the Samsung Unpacked media event on August 10 are the new Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatch models. Today, a new leak from WinFuture claims to have some concrete info on these wearables. The article also has posted what looks like official renders of the watches that look similar to previously leaked images.

The article states the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm model will have a 284mAh battery, while the 44mm version will have a 410mAh battery. They are supposed to have a battery life of up to 50 hours. However, the story claims the Pro version of the smartwatch, which will be 45mm in size, will have a much bigger 590mAh battery on board. The article says that it will boost the battery life of the Pro model up to 80 hours on one charge.  A previously leaked report claims the smartwatches will include a 10W wireless charger that will charge the wearables up to 45% of the battery’s capacity in just 30 minutes.

Hopefully, these reports stand up to actual real-world testing. Samsung said that the previous Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatches would last up to 40 hours on a single charge. However, we noted in our review that we could not come close to those numbers, as they lasted up to 1.5 days at most.

The same WinFuture article says the Galaxy Watch 5 will have the same Samsung Exynos W920 processor found on earlier Galaxy Watch models. The display on the 40mm version is said to be a 1.19-inch AMOLED screen, while the 44mm version, and the Pro model, will have a larger 1.36-inch AMOLED display. All of the Galaxy 5 models are supposed to have the display covered in sapphire glass. The Pro version is also supposed to have a titanium body. The renders also show what looks like a new sensor on the back of the Galaxy Watch models, which WinFuture speculates has been added to record body temperature.

It won’t be long before we get all the info on the Galaxy Watch 5 versions via Samsung Unpacked. We will be covering the event and all the products that Samsung plans to reveal on Wednesday.
