Oppo may be relatively new to the foldable phone market, but it seems the company could be preparing to take Samsung head-on with two new foldable devices.
According to a leak provided by PriceBaba and Yogesh Brar, Oppo is working on a tablet-like foldable and a clamshell foldable phone. Predicted to be branded as the Find N Fold and Find N Flip, the phones will feature a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip and come to global markets this fall.
In 2021, Oppo launched its first foldable handset called the Find N. However, the phone was released exclusively for China. This time around, it looks like Oppo is changing its strategy with a focus on going global, which will immediately pit its phones against the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The Find N differentiated itself from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in a few notable ways. It contained a 50MP main camera and a 16MP ultrawide compared to the Fold 3’s 12MP main and ultrawide cameras. Additionally, Oppo somehow found a way to avoid the gap at the hinge unlike the Fold 3. However, the most impressive difference may be that you can’t feel a crease between the two screens on the Find N like you can with the Fold 3.
Despite following a different approach with its first foldable, it looks like Oppo could be opting to follow Samsung’s lead with their next phones given the similar naming conventions.
The Fold 4 and Flip 4 are both scheduled to release later this month. With a new competitor entering the ring, expected to release not long after the Fold 4 and Flip 4 become available, could Oppo’s new phones have an effect on the sales of Samsung’s foldables? We’ll just have to wait and see when the time comes.
