TL;DR

  • Sony has announced a PS5 price hike for various regions.
  • The increase doesn’t affect US consumers, though.
  • The company blamed the global economy for the price bump.

Sony’s PS5 doesn’t come cheap, starting at $399 for the Digital version and $499 for the standard model. Now, the PlayStation maker has announced that several regions will see a price hike due to the “global economic environment.”

Sony announced that the digital and standard PS5 models will see price increases in Australia, Canada, China, Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the UK. You can find the new prices below.

For what it’s worth, the European pricing was previously pegged at €399 and €499 respectively. Meanwhile, the UK price was originally set at £359 and £449.

These aren’t the only regions set to receive price hikes though, as the company noted that several markets in EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions not listed here could receive a hike too (referring consumers to their local retailers). There’s good news for the US though, as the company confirmed that the PS5 won’t receive a price hike there.

“We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries,” Sony nevertheless said when justifying the price increase for other regions.

The news comes roughly a year after the company apparently confirmed that the standard PS5 was no longer being sold at a loss. However, the Digital version was still sold at a loss at the time.
