Xiaomi has been at the forefront of affordable 5G phones, with its ~$650 Mi Mix 3 5G being among the cheapest 5G devices last year. The sub-$300 Redmi K30 5G goes even lower, and we’ve heard that Xiaomi isn’t stopping there.

Now, a Xiaomi smartphone with 5G (model number M2004J7AC) has emerged on China’s TENAA website, complete with Redmi branding. The phone bears a strong resemblance to the Redmi Note 9 series, owing to the square camera housing and shiny glass-looking back.

There aren’t any Redmi Note devices with 5G yet though, so this would be a major upgrade for the budget-focused family. The phone packs NSA and SA 5G connectivity and is powered by an unnamed 2.6Ghz octa-core processor.

The quoted clock speed doesn’t line up with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700 series 5G chips or MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 series. But it does line up with the Dimensity 1000 processor. However, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station claims that it’s actually powered by the unannounced Dimensity 820 SoC.

TENAA’s listing also lists 4GB to 8GB of RAM, 64GB to 256GB of expandable storage, a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a waterdrop notch, and a 4,420mAh battery.

Xiaomi’s upcoming phone is also packing a triple rear camera setup (with a 48MP main camera), a 16MP selfie camera, in-display fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, headphone port, and Android 10.
