At long last, the rumors can come to an end, as we now know what’s next for the Silent Hill franchise, at least for the next couple of years.

Konami announced a Silent Hill 2 remake on Wednesday, revealing that the iconic horror title would be rebuilt by Bloober Team, a studio known for working on horror games like Layers of Fear and The Medium. The Silent Hill 2 remake is coming to PS5 and PC, and is a timed PS5 console exclusive for at least a year.

You can check out the full Silent Hill ‘Transmission’ livestream below:

There’s no release window right now, but the teaser trailer shows James in the titular town, as well as glimpses of enemies like the nurses and the dreaded Pyramid Head.

Masahiro Ito, a concept artist who originally worked with Team Silent on the original Silent Hill games, is also contributing to the Silent Hill 2 remake. Konami noted in the livestream that Ito was first approached in regards to the project three years ago.

Ito isn’t the only veteran of Team Silent to be working on the Silent Hill 2 remake. Akira Yamoaka, a composer who has worked on numerous titles including the mainline Silent Hill games and more recently The Medium, will also be returning for the remake.

“The fact that Silent Hill remains in everyone’s hearts more than 20 years later makes me very happy,” Yamoaka said.

Some of the best horror games of the last few years have been remakes, with companies like Capcom and Electronic Arts revealing big remakes like Resident Evil 4 and the Dead Space remake, which are slated to launch in January 2023 and March 2023 respectively.

As part of the livestream, Konami also announced some other Silent Hill projects that are all on the way. Silent Hill: Townfall is a new game being developed by No Code and published by Annapurna Interactive.

A movie called Return to Silent Hill, based on Silent Hill 2, is also in development. Silent Hill: Ascension is an “interactive series” where fans will vote to make decisions. Finally, there’s Silent Hill F, another completely new game from Neobards Entertainment.
