Amazon hints at imminent Pixel 7a series launch, or does it?

TL;DR

  • Amazon now lets users sign up for emails related to the Pixel 7a launch.
  • It’s possible that this could be a typo and was meant for the Pixel 7 series.
  • The retailer has accidentally leaked smartphones before, though.

Google released the Pixel 6a back in July, bringing a $450 price tag, relatively beefy Tensor processor, and Pixel-exclusive software features. Now, it looks like Amazon might be gearing up for the Pixel 7a launch already.

A GSMArena tipster spotted an email subscription option for a “Google Pixel 7a family launch announcement.” We were able to independently confirm that this option is available on Amazon’s website (Your Account > Your Email Subscriptions > Browse All Subscriptions), and you can indeed subscribe to get notified. Check out a screenshot of the option below.

There are a few reasons to take this news with a major pinch of salt, though. For one, the Pixel 6a is less than six months old, so this would be an extremely early release for Google. Then again, Nikkei Asia complicated matters when it reported earlier this month that Google planned to produce four million units of an unnamed budget phone for launch early next year.

We’re also cautious about this Amazon listing as it mentioned a watch too. However, Google just launched its first smartwatch (the Pixel Watch) earlier this month.

Either way, there’s every chance Amazon made a typo and this notification is actually related to the Pixel 7 series and Pixel Watch. But it’s certainly possible that the online retailer has accidentally outed a new smartphone ahead of schedule — it wouldn’t be the first time this happened, after all.
