2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Price Commands a Premium

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is greatly improved from its predecessor. Not only does it boast a quiet ride and a tech-happy interior, but it’s also one of the most fuel-efficient sedans around. Hyundai has released prices ahead of the sedan’s release this June, and they’re pretty reasonable.

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Blue starts at $28,725. At this price, the base Sonata Hybrid is more expensive than the base Honda Accord Hybrid ($26,575), but less expensive than the base Toyota Camry Hybrid ($29,385). The Sonata Hybrid carries a $4,150 price premium over the base gas-only Sonata.

While SEL models are priced from $30,875, you’ll pay $36,275 for a top-tier Sonata Hybrid Limited. In our recent Sonata Hybrid interior review, we praised the Limited’s 10.3-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as the crisp Bose audio system. And while we liked the leather seats, we wish there were fewer grainy plastics throughout the cabin.

If you’re looking for the best fuel economy, you want to stick with the base model, which is called Blue. The Blue tops out at 52 mpg combined, matching the Camry Hybrid’s rating as one of the most efficient sedans available. Other Sonata Hybrids deliver “just” 47 mpg. All versions are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor for a combined output of 192 horsepower.

While features like the solar roof and smartphone digital key are optional, you don’t have to upgrade for safety. The sedan comes with a host of standard safety features, including forward-collision avoidance assist, blind spot collision-avoidance assist, rear-cross traffic assist, lane following assist, and lane keeping assist.
