GM recalls more than 740,000 vehicles in U.S.

WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling more than 740,000 vehicles in the U.S. because the daytime running lights may not turn off when the headlights are on.

Vehicles affected by the recall are the 2021-23 Buick Envision, 2020-23 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, as well as Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles from the 2022-23 model years.

The vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 for lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment, according to NHTSA.

If daytime running lights do not turn off as intended, it “may result in a glare, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash,” the agency said.

GM said it is not aware of any injuries, crashes or deaths.

To fix the issue, the body control module software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update.

Dealers were notified Dec. 8. Owners are expected to be notified starting Jan. 23.

So far this year, GM has issued 29 recalls affecting nearly 3.3 million vehicles, according to NHTSA data. Some of those vehicles might be part of more than one recall campaign.
