Protecting your Kindle can be stylish at the same time

Even though it’s been around since 2019, that 10th gen Kindle on your bedside table has plenty of life left in it. On top of that, with all the books you can get on your Kindle for free, you’ll need to take it with you everywhere you go to stay caught up with your reading. So whether you want to change your Kindle’s looks or your old case has seen its fair share of drops, there are plenty of reasons to protect your portable Library of Alexandria.

With options from eye-catching to understated, there’s no shortage of fantastic selections to keep your Kindle looking as spiffy as the day you unboxed it.

ANDROIDPOLICE VIDEO OF THE DAY

Whether you bought your Kindle for books or casual article perusal, a case isn’t the only way to protect the screen; you might want to pick up a screen protector or another one of our top-rated kindle accessories.

    mirrodi stand case

    Premium Pick

For the reader on the go, the Miroddi Stand Case is a super flexible option with its hand strap and kickstand. In addition to its auto wake and sleep support, the kickstand has a built-in card slot in case you want to pop into your local café without bringing your entire wallet. The magnets in the front cover keep it secure to the back of the case while open, which pairs nicely with the hand strap for easy one-handed use. Though the color selection is limited, the pebbled black PU leather and gray fabric options have a timeless style that will look good for years.

    ayotu case

    Best Value

If all you need from a case are the essentials, the Ayotu case has you (and your Kindle) covered. Affordable as it may be, the case includes features like a magnetic closure and auto sleep and wake, but not much more. Available in a wide selection of solid-colored fabrics, finding one — or even multiple — you can live with is easy, given the low price point. This case is a great option if you need something to keep your Kindle from getting scuffed up in your bag.

    diamond-case-kindle

    Editor’s Choice

If you still want your Kindle to look like a Kindle, a TPU bumper case is exactly what you need. While the Chineestyle Diamond bumper case doesn’t have a front cover, like many of our other picks, it does have a raised lip on the front to prevent any scratches or dings from happening when you lay it face down. TPU is notoriously grippy, so there are fewer worries about dropping your Kindle or knocking it off your bedside table unexpectedly, but it still offers some decent drop protection as extra insurance. TPU is also super flexible and durable, so it’s a breeze to get your Kindle in the case, and you don’t have to worry about everyday wear and tear necessitating a replacement very soon. Chineestyle also promises the case won’t yellow over time, making your Kindle look clean and new for a very long time to come.

    amazon kindle case

While the Amazon fabric Kindle case may have a limited color selection and a minimal feature set, if you’re the type who prefers first-party accessories, this is your case. Why buy the imitation when you can buy the original? The features are more or less limited to a sturdy polycarbonate frame, magnetic closure, and auto sleep and wake support; many other cases have only those same features because this one had them first. As far as the styling goes, the colors are vibrant, and printed designs are available if solid-colored fabrics aren’t your jam.

    moko-fitted-Kindle-case

The MoKo protective shell case has very few frills. But with auto sleep and wake, a hard plastic frame, and a lightweight yet sturdy cover, it’s clearly focused on keeping your Kindle in great condition without adding much girth or weight. With a soft liner and raised corners, your e-ink display is sure to look as crystal-clear as the day you unboxed it. It doesn’t have features like handles, a kickstand, or pockets, as those would run counter to the ultra-light design MoKo has nailed here. With various solid-color and printed options, this feather-light case still looks great. For my money, I’d go with the vintage leather option (but that could be my envy of Amazon’s leather Paperwhite case).

    updated-ACdream-folio-case

One of the features unique to this case compared to the rest of our selections is right on the front cover. If you want to keep your notebook with your Kindle or need pockets everywhere, the ACdream folio case is your best option due to its added storage. It may not have a form-fitting snap-in polycarbonate case design, but it still supports the Kindle’s magnetic auto wake and sleep. Available in a plethora of solid colors and a few art designs, the case will spoil you for choices in the looks department. When people tell you they like the look of your Kindle case, you can proudly say, “Thanks, it has pockets.”

    govtva-flip-case

The GOVTVA case for Kindle has magnetic sleep and wake, a kickstand, and two straps to make single-handed reading super easy. It comes in a few different art prints and black if you’re the stealthy and understated type, though I’m partial to either of the misty landscape options. While plenty of cases are form-fitting, firmly snapping onto the corners to hold your Kindle, the GOVTVA case uses a pocket with a flap closure to secure your e-reader. This gives a bit of extra cushion on the front if you’re worried about drops and also adds some continuity by framing your e-ink display with the same print on the outside of your new case.

    Young-me-Kindle-case

It’s hard to beat a silicone slip-case when it comes to convenience and cost. The Young Me slim silicone case may not have creature comforts like magnetic sleep and wake or a kickstand, but it’s a great way to add extra grip to your Kindle. Silicone is also much easier to clean than fabric or textured PU leather, so while it doesn’t add any splash resistance, it’s no bother at all if you set it down on a surface that’s stickier than you anticipated. With just three solid-color options to choose from, it doesn’t scream “fashion accessory” as much as it stoically mumbles “utility,” and there’s nothing wrong with that.

    ayotu-printed-PU-Kindle-case

Ayotu’s solid-color fabric case is one of the best budget options to keep your Kindle safe, so it’s not surprising that its more premium line of printed cases is also worth your attention. With the same general design as the fabric version, the Ayotu PU leather case for Kindle trades the mono-color fabric for a printed cover for barely any extra cash. With options like Starry Night and The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, your Kindle can remind you of some of your favorite pieces of art for just a couple of bucks more than the purely utilitarian option, with the same proven quality that makes it so alluring.

    CoBak case

With no kickstand or hand strap, the CoBak case doesn’t add much weight to your Kindle and has a very slim profile. Thin as it may be, thanks to its fiberglass-reinforced cover, it still has a hidden magnetic closure and supports magnetic auto sleep and wake. Thin, light, and sturdy is a great combination, and the CoBak case is also available in a wide range of color options, from subtle to eye-catching, which is a nice bonus. All too often, practical and stylish don’t go together, but they do here.

Protecting your Kindle

If you still want your Kindle to look like a Kindle, your only real options are to use it bareback or with a bumper case like the Chineestyle Diamond TPU case or the Young Me ultra slim silicone case. While neither has magnets in a cover to enable auto-wake and sleep, they’re both made of durable, grippy, easy-to-clean materials that keep your Kindle at a manageable thickness for easy single-handed reading.

Do you need your Kindle to do double duty as your purse or wallet? The added pocket of the ACdream Folio or the credit card slot of the Miroddi Stand case makes that practical. When your Kindle is also your wallet, bringing it with you becomes less of a preference and more of a necessity, and that may be the extra push you need to get through your reading list.

If you need your Kindle to be as much of an accessory as it is a utility, getting a case in an eye-catching color or with an art print is always an option. Cases from Ayotu, GOVTVA, and MoKo come in a staggering selection of colors and patterns. Whether you want a leather-bound tome, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, or just another purple accessory, there’s no shortage of stylish options from any of those case makers.

Some people will always prefer first-party cases, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Amazon did a great job making a case with equal parts form and function, and now is the time to buy it since Amazon doesn’t sell previous-generation Kindle cases forever after the new ones roll out. On the other hand, if you want something like the official case, the Ayotu fabric case checks all the same boxes with more colors to choose from.

Time to upgrade?

If you’d rather upgrade from your 10th gen Kindle, you can’t go wrong with a shiny new 11th gen Kindle or any of the best e-readers money can buy. Or, maybe the Kindle Scribe is more your speed if you want to go from reading to sketching.
