Mercedes-AMG CEO Replaces Andy Palmer as Head of Aston Martin

Tobias Moers’s career as chief executive officer (CEO) of Mercedes-AMG, the three-pointed star’s high-performance vehicle division, comes to a close, as Moers takes the role of CEO at Aston Martin Lagonda on August 1, 2020. He replaces Andy Palmer, who served as the British brand’s CEO for more than half a decade.

In a written statement, Lawrence Stroll, executive chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda, deemed Moers “an exceptionally talented automotive professional and a proven business leader with a strong track record during his many years at Daimler.” Indeed, Moers helped Mercedes-AMG sell more 132,000 vehicles last year—the most ever recorded by the sub-brand, per Daimler.

The arrival of Moers at Aston Martin comes in the midst of economic uncertainty for the automobile manufacturer, with shares of its stock down more than 90 percent from its initial public offering (IPO) price of late 2018. Still, the company is not without promise thanks to upcoming vehicles pushed by Palmer, such as the DBX crossover SUV and Valkyrie hypercar.

While Aston awaits the advent of Moers to its Gaydon, Warwickshire headquarters in August, the company is temporarily appointing Keith Stanton, vice president and chief manufacturing operations officer, to the position of chief operating officer. Meanwhile, Daimler is naming its head of Mercedes-Benz Brazil, Philipp Schiemer, to CEO of Mercedes-AMG. Additionally, Jochen Hermann, the current head of Daimler’s e-drive development, will serve under Schiemer as Mercedes-AMG’s chief technical officer.
