Preorder Zelda And Pikmin 4 With Switch Game Vouchers To Save $30

Nintendo is once again selling “game vouchers” on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The vouchers allow you to get two games for $100, offering a savings of up to $30. Though most pairs of games you can pick will save you $20 total, the voucher program includes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which costs $70 on its own. If you don’t mind going digital for your Switch games, this is a great opportunity to save some cash on your preorders.

There are currently five upcoming Switch exclusives in the voucher program:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – May 12
  • Pikmin 4 – July 21
  • Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp – April 21
  • Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon – March 17
  • Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe – February 24

Combining Tears of the Kingdom with any of the other four will save you $30 overall. Essentially, you’re getting Switch exclusives for $50 a pop. Since Nintendo Switch exclusives aren’t discounted as often as other games, this is a pretty remarkable deal. Those who prefer physical editions of your games should check out our The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom preorder guide as well as GameSpot’s exclusive discounts on Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Bayonetta Origins ($49 each).

If you’re not sure if you want to preorder any of those games, there’s plenty more to choose from. Another standout is Fire Emblem Engage, which just launched in January and has yet to go on sale. A bunch of hits from last year are up for grabs as well, including Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Before you decide which games to use your game voucher on–or even purchase it to begin with–you should check game listings at major retailers. If you’re not careful, you could actually wind up spending more money on the pair of games than you would elsewhere. The list includes a bunch of older titles that you can snag for less than retail price. For instance, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe can often be found for around $40 each, so you’d save about $20 versus the voucher offer. Nintendo’s first-party titles tend to remain at retail price on the eShop, even several years after launch.

There are a few things about Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers that you should know. You don’t have to use them immediately, but they do expire one year after the purchase date. Nintendo says they will add more titles to the list over time, so it’s possible other upcoming exclusives will be included in the coming months. You must be a Nintendo Switch Online member to purchase vouchers, and each Nintendo account is limited to eight active vouchers.
