The Galaxy S23 series brings power savings in another key area

TL;DR

  • Samsung Display has confirmed that the S23 series screens use much less power.
  • The company says it’s cut power consumption by 13% to 16%.
  • Together with the more efficient processor, this should make for better battery life.

However, it looks like Samsung has also improved efficiency in another key area. Samsung Display published a post outlining the major display-related improvements in the Galaxy S23 series. It turns out that the screens also sip less power than last year’s handsets thanks to a new organic material.

“The new organic material improved the luminance efficiency by making the movement of electrons easier and faster. By doing so, power consumption has been cut down by 13% to 16%,” reads an excerpt of the article.

Efficiency improvements across the board

It’s unclear whether Samsung Display is referring to the screens’ power consumption or power consumption on the Galaxy S23 series in general. We’ve asked Samsung Display representatives to clarify this and will update the article if/when they get back to us.

Either way, it looks like the Galaxy S23 series is making battery life gains across the board on paper. The more efficient chipset, display-related improvements, and bigger batteries for the base and Plus models should all add up to deliver more time off the charger.
