🌞Good morning, and welcome to Friday’s Daily Authority. Paula here, covering for Nick. The sun’s shining here and it’s a beautiful day, but I’ve got the lurgy, so I’m just enjoying the view from my desk (ok, sofa), which isn’t a bad way at all to start Friday. On with today’s top news, including the Galaxy S23’s new malware-fighting feature, more crazy Bing chatbot stories, and the world’s tiniest 3D printer!

Samsung’s Message Guard protects you from malware

A new Galaxy S23 feature will screen incoming messages to keep you safe.

  • According to Samsung, Message Guard screens incoming images on Samsung Messages and Google Messages for malware.
  • Malware lurking in videos, images, and links can potentially give bad actors access to your devices or compromise your personal data.
  • Message Guard will protect against zero-click exploits taking place any time you receive an image on your phone. This type of attack is one where you don’t need to click on anything — simply receiving a file or image can grant hackers access to your device.
  • The new feature works by isolating all incoming image files on your phone when they’re received, then screening them. Samsung says it “neutralizes any potential threat hiding in image files before they have a chance to do you any harm.
  • Sounds pretty useful, and it runs in the background while you’re using your phone for other things.
  • Right now, the feature works with JPG/JPEG, PNG, ICO, GIF, BMP, WEBP, and WBMP image files.
  • This new feature will soon work with third-party messaging apps like WhatsApp, too, and will roll out to other Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 5.1 later this year.

🎮 And the first trailer landed for Apple’s Tetris, telling the story of Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton), the producer and video game designer who brought the game to the masses, premiering on Apple TV Plus March 31 (YouTube).

Friday Fun

YouTuber My N Mi really loves to create small things that work, and their latest creation is the world’s smallest 3D printer.

  • This teeny-tiny printer measures just 18 x 31 x 41mm.
  • To put that into perspective, it’s about the height of a standard match.
  • Weighing in at 17g, it’s fully functional and uses SLA (LCD) printing technology
  • It also has an XY accuracy of 0,135mm and layer resolution of 0,005 to 0,3mm.
  • Tech specs aside, it’s also just really, really darn cute.
  • Check it out in action in the above video.

Have a great weekend!
