Is Tesla being hurt by Elon Musk’s social media brand?

Yes, Tesla stock dropped, and Elon Musk is a lightning rod.

But a word of caution for those who want to write off Musk as a Twitter pariah wounding his auto company.

My analysis of Twitter data reveals that engagement surrounding Tesla has been mostly positive and neutral.

Recent Twitter chatter about Tesla centers on hashtags such as #goelectric, #model3, #modelx, #spacex and #drivefree and includes sizable discourse about issues with Tesla’s self-driving car technology.

Musk’s young and loyal social media fan base connects well with him. Musk has nearly 130 million Twitter followers, millions more than Taylor Swift and four times more than President Joe Biden.
